Power Source
This Capeland Shelby Cobra Limited Edition Chronograph uses an Automatic movement, as most top-notch luxury timepieces do. This timepiece uses the kinetic energy of the watch-wearer to supply the energy to the ETA 7753 Valjoux engine.
The Power Reserve of this Automatic is 44 hours, which is very respectable in a timepiece of this quality.
The Good
This Capeland Shelby Cobra is Swiss made and there are less than two thousand of these pieces available to the public, many of which are already treasured by their owners. With an Automatic movement and a great 44 hour Power Reserve, this Capeland Series timepiece uses a powerful ETA 7753 Valjoux engine.
As far as the design goes, the Stainless Steel case material is a great choice to keep this watch looking sharp and sporty, while keeping the cost down (as opposed to using white gold or titanium). The case back features a skeleton transparent Exhibition See Through window, allowing the wearer to enjoy the inner workings of the Automatic movement inside.
The genuine Sapphire crystal protecting the dial offers a fantastic view into the large analog watch face. With a main color scheme of black on the dial, the white Arabic numerals, silver-tone hands, yellow-tipped second hand, two yellow subdial hands, one silver-tone subdial hand, and yellow Tachymeter markers along the outer dial rim, all come together to create the perfect homage to Shelby.
The genuine black alligator leather of the exterior band and a sports yellow calfskin rubber interior, the band is comfortable to wear and functions as both a luxury wear item as well as a sports watch.
The functions and features are also impressive. With a 50 meter water resistance, luminescent hands, Chronograph, calendar features, self-sustaining Automatic movement, tachymeter, and a power reserve of 44 hours during non-use, this Baume et Mercier Capeland Chronograph is one of the best timepieces we have had the pleasure of reviewing.
The Bad
There are no real negative aspects to this timepiece. However, acting as devil’s advocate, with a 44mm case, it would be preferable to many men if there were a smaller version available. Perhaps a 40mm case size.
In addition, the scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal does not have an anti-reflective coating, so it would look magnificent if it did. Otherwise, this watch is nearly perfect, especially in its design and functionality.
Highlights
Besides the laundry list of pros featured above, the real highlight simply has to be the design. This timepiece just screams Shelby Cobra, and if you or someone you know is an owner of a Shelby, they would be the first to go crazy over this timepiece. Anyone who loves cars and versatile timepieces will like this watch, but the great thing about this luxury Baume et Mercier model is that it is still under the radar enough to act as a pure luxury watch.
The design constantly reminds you of the Shelby Cobra and it is simply magnificent and sophisticated.
