This Portugieser uses a mechanical movement with Pellaton automatic winding. The IWC-manufactured 52615 calibre (of the 52000-calibre family) engine is stunning and offers an incredibly array of features upon the luxury dial. With 54 precious jewels, this movement could not be more perfect in its design, functionality, and impressive precision.

The Good
Featuring a high quality automatic winding mechanical movement and a full feature dial, this men’s watch is quality from head to toe. Beginning with the 44mm case, the use of 18 ct Red Gold was an absolute hit — paired with the ardoise dial and 18 ct Red Gold dial accents and black Alligator leather strap, this high quality construction could not be better.
The genuine Sapphire crystal is arched-edge with anti reflective coating on both sides for a stunning look into the dial beneath. The back also features a transparent, Sapphire crystal backing so you can view the beautiful movement beneath.
Water resistant to 3 BAR/ATM and with a power reserve of up to 7 days on a full wind, this timepiece features a power reserve display, a four-digit year date display, and four additional subdials.
This perpetual calendar features four subdials: the subdial at 12 o’clock is a double moonphase for the northern and southern hemispheres; the subdial at 3 o’clock displays the day of the month; the subdial at 6 o’clock displays the month of the year, and the 9 o’clock subdial features the day of the week — within this 9 o’clock subdial is a 60 second dial. The two main dial hands are for the hour and minute and track around the outer dial rim’s Arabic Numerals and minute markings.
The black Alligator leather strap offers a nice finish to this 18 ct Red Gold timepiece, and the pattern is sophisticated and stays true to the IWC brand.

Functionality
The functionality of this luxury IWC is incredible. From it’s double coated anti reflective Sapphire crystal; solid 18 ct Red Gold case, bezel, crown, and dial features; water resistance; and the full functionality of the date window and four subdials on this timepiece — this Portugieser exceeds expectations.
The extremely high quality mechanical movement uses Pellaton automatic winding and an IWC-manufactured 52615 calibre engine with 54 jewels that powers the face of this luxury timepiece.
The Highlights
It is nearly impossible to choose just a few aspects of this luxury watch to shine a light on. From crown to clasp, this 44mm Portugieser is the apex of fine craftsmanship in the global luxury market. As a legendary luxury brand, and a Swiss one at that, from the design to the materials used, this model has it all.
The first highlight is the choice of 18 ct Red Gold as the case and bezel material. Most luxury brands tend to gear towards solid Gold, Everose, or Rose Gold; however, IWC has created a stunning look with the Red Gold of the case and stationary bezel, as well as the Glucydur beryllium alloy indexless balance. The rotor is also 18 ct Red Gold and as far as the Arabic Numerals of the main dial, you can rest assured that the 18 ct Red Gold continues. The Gold design is finished off with an 18 ct Red Gold crown as well as the two Red Gold dial hands.
The real attention-grabber of this piece is the stunning ardoise dial color and the four subdials placed at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. Between the 7 and 8 o’clock positions rests a rectangular date window with the year in white Arabic Numerals (e.g., “2015”).
