The iconic Men’s Monaco is a timeless luxury timepiece from the Swiss giant, TAG Heuer. This Calibre 12 is a great achievement that features not only a beautiful and simple design, but  attributes that stay faithful to the original series.

With a 39mm square steel case, a pitch black dial, two square subdials (including a chronograph), a calendar window at 6 o’clock, applied hour indexes, luminescent hands and markers, and a high quality Calibre 12 Automatic movement, this Monaco is an instant and timeless classic.

The square small second and chronograph minutes at 3 and 9 o’clock offer precise timekeeping and continue the Monaco look. While the case is made from stainless steel rather than silver or 18K gold, the amount of features and quality of its component parts lift this TAG Heuer on a pedestal.

Power Source

This beautiful Swiss-Made Monaco uses a Self Winding Automatic movement. Extremely high quality, this Calibre 12 movement features 59 rubies and a balance frequency of 28,800 v.p.h. (4 Hz).

The Good

There are countless positive features of this timepiece, from its dial to its luminous hands. The 39mm square case is perfectly rounded around the edges to offer that sleek and classic Monaco look while maintaining its originality. The two square subdials at the 3 and 9 o’clock continues this irregular shape theme. The black dial glitters darkly in the light, highlighting the beautiful silver-tone dial hands, which are luminous for when it gets dark.

The dial features a chronograph, which measures time with an accuracy of 1/8th of a second. This is useful in professional and leisure sporting activities or simply as an additional time measurement device. It also makes the dial look incredible on an aesthetic level.

Water is no issue, as this timepiece is water resistant up to 100 meters. You can swim with it on, but it is not recommended that you dive with a watch that is under 300 meter of water resistance.

The Sapphire protecting the watch is scratch resistant and serves as an additional aesthetic crowd-pleaser. This quality Sapphire continues around to the Exhibition case backing, which is also protected by Sapphire.

The Bad

For a timepiece in this price range, it was unexpected to find that the case material was stainless steel. Typically, a luxury watch of this caliber would be made of silver or solid 18K white, yellow, or rose gold.

However, this does not deter from the quality of the timepiece much, especially since the functionality is so excellent.

The Highlights

The highlight of this Monaco is definitely the bold pitch black and stainless steel color scheme and the square design throughout. The applied stainless steel, silver-toned dial hands and indexes are luminous, making this the perfect anytime-anywhere timepiece.

The square subdials are gorgeous and highlight the round applied dial markers that reside within the square dial. This juxtaposition is both elegant and reminds you of Monaco’s famous yacht identity.
