Baume et Mercier is a Swiss luxury manufacturer that has been producing some of the world’s greatest designs and timepieces since 1830. A subsidiary of the Swiss conglomerate Richemont, Baume et Mercier is the result of the partnership between Paul Mercier and William Baume, who began specializing in wristwatches in Geneva, Switzerland when they partnered in 1918.
During the Roaring Twenties, the brand embraced women’s emancipation and the 1940s was the decade that launched many modern watch collections, including the 2 Register Chronograph. The double case backs are highly sought after and very rare.
In 1988, they joined the Richemont group and offers a variety of collections for men and women, including the Capeland.

The Good
The positive qualities of this outstanding Baume et Mercier piece are nearly endless. From clasp to crown, this model has it all. With a solid 42mm case made from steel, blue steel dial hands, elegant silver-tone Roman numerals, and a calendar window at the 3 o’clock position, the Classima Executives XL has a demanding and bold design.
What makes this watch design unique is that the two sub dials, as opposed to being a part of the black dial, are instead applied entirely in silver-tone with small black markers. The blue steel sub dial hands keep track of the 30 minute dial (at 12 o’clock) and the 12 hour / chronograph dial (at 6 o’clock).
This attractive and quality piece has one of the most elegant dial designs that appears more impressive the more you look at it.
The quality of the polished steel construction and the addition of a beautiful crocodile-embossed black leather strap, this watch ties in the two-tone silver/black design perfectly in a way that stands out from other timepieces.

Underneath the Sapphire crystal dial window is a jet black dial that matches the tone of the crocodile-embossed leather strap. The two-tone dial offsets the black background with blue steel hands and silver-tone Roman numeral hour markers. In addition, the two subdials, located at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions, are applied completely in silver-tone with blue steel hands.
