The best red carpet jewelry at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015

By Rachel Garrahan

There was a lot of glamour and a welcome dose of attitude in the red carpet jewelry from this weekend’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs). Among the sparkle of classic diamonds, colored gemstones, ear climbers and body chains all made an impact at the latest award season event in Los Angeles.

Julianne Moore, as always, lit up the red carpet with her choice of SAGs jewelry. Her Givenchy Couture beaded gown once again proved that green is the redhead’s color, and the addition of a pair of purple amethyst Chopard high jewelry earrings was an inspired touch. The Oscars favourite, who added a SAG Actor award to her Golden Globe for her Still Alice performance, completed the look with a diamond ring featuring an elegant swirl of gems from the Swiss maison’s High Jewelry collection.

Felicity Jones repeated her Golden Age of Hollywood style from the Globes with classically beautiful Van Cleef & Arpels earrings from the maison’s Pierres de Caractère – Variations collection. Diamonds and cultured pearls stood out against a mix of white and yellow gold and were the perfect complement to her ultra-feminine Balenciaga column gown in palest pink.

Platinum proved popular once again among the red carpet jewelry. Julia Roberts embodied modern chic with the geometric shapes of her Tiffany chrysoprase and diamond earrings in platinum, with matching cuff and ring. The precious mint-green gemstone was accentuated by the simple black of her tuxedo-inspired Givenchy jumpsuit.

Woman in white Reese Witherspoon, meanwhile, paired her Giorgio Armani one-shouldered dress with $3.5m worth of Harry Winston diamonds, including platinum and emerald-cut diamond drop earrings.

In contrast to this all-white look, Viola Davis chose to complement her ivory Maxmara gown with colored gemstones from Van Cleef & Arpels. The actress, who won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, wore the most striking jewels of the evening: Oiseau de Feu earrings from the French maison, featuring diamonds, spessartite garnets, fire opal, red coral, white cultured pearls, blue and yellow sapphires, together with an OpArts bracelet that combined rich layers of onyx, lapis, sapphires and diamonds set in yellow gold.

Honorable Woman star and nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal also went for white, looking effortlessly chic in custom Thakoon with Victorian Fred Leighton earrings from and bold red lips.

Vintage Fred Leighton jewelry was a popular choice: Patricia Arquette wore a pair of 19th century earrings with her stunning deep green Vivienne Westwood gown when she accepted her Actor for Best Supporting Actress for her stellar performance in Boyhood. And Best Actress nominee Jennifer Aniston chose Fred Leighton earrings to complement her vintage Galliano gown, the plunging neckline given added sex appeal with a black diamond body chain from Amrit Jewelry.

Fellow nominees Keira Knightley and Emma Stone proved their red carpet cool with on-trend mismatched Repossi diamond ear climbers, the first pairing them with a romantic Erdem jewel-toned dress and the latter with a fashion-forward menswear-inspired Dior Couture tux and sheer skirt.

Naomi Watts went for a more classic look with her SAGs jewelry that was headline-grabbing nonetheless: she wore Bulgari jewelry once again, the dazzling movement of her diamond and white gold earrings matched with the seductive coils of her ruby and diamond Serpenti bracelet and matching diamond Bulgari ring – a perfect pairing with her her navy blue Balenciaga column dress.
