Acer’s new Leap Ware smartwatch will reward you for living healthy

Just a couple of years after its Liquid Leapfitness tracker, Acer is jumping back into the wearable game with a new smartwatch, the company announced today. Enter the Leap Ware, a new smartwatch Acer is billing as a “virtual coach.”

Thanks to a combination of sensors and algorithms, Acer says the Leap Ware can monitor your heart rate, stamina, stress / fatigue levels and exposure to UV rays. When combined with the Liquid Life companion app, Acer will throw as much gamification as it can at you.

There’s a ‘friendly avatar’ that’ll let you know how you’re progressing on your goals. There are also ‘Power Coins’ which you can earn when you complete certain milestones. You can even compete with friends to see who can earn the most Power Coins. And these aren’t just little medals that ultimately mean nothing either – Acer says you’ll be able to redeem the Power Coins for items, rewards and discounts in the Liquid Life Market.

Physically, the Leap Ware is a 42mm watch with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ and IPX7 water resistance, which Acer says can protect against an “unexpected torrential downpour”. There’s also a built-in LED that can light up at a quick button press. Bands will come in either navy blue or light brown, but the Leap Ware is also compatible with any 20mm band.

Acer also announced a new 360 camera called the Holo 360, which comes with built-in Wi-Fi and LTE and can make calls. We don’t know much more than that yet though, but we’ll update with more information when we do.

The Leap Ware will arrive in North America in July starting $139, in Europe in Q3 starting at €139 and Taiwan in August starting at NT$4,990.
