Gold fever: the metal of the moment morphs into the season’s most wearable new gold jewellery

By Åse Anderson

Decadent high jewellery pieces that shout all-out glamour are all very well, but elegant gold jewellery that will fit readily into your everyday life will get more wear than any other accessory.

There was no shortage of gold jewellery at Baselworld this year designed to take you effortlessly from day to night. From delicate gold necklaces with a splash of colour to gold rings with a touch of sparkle, the big brands offered up a plethora of luxury jewellery that will have you reaching for it again and again.

Fabergé presented gorgeously wearable new jewels in the Rococo collection. In rose gold and white enamel, they feature elaborate scrolls that are a modern take on the Rococo style. The Fabergé jewellery collection is inspired by the legendary Rocaille egg created in 1902, which in turn took its cue from the 18th century Rococo movement.

Chopard served up a delectable helping of feminine gold jewellery that is perfect for the warmer months ahead. Long, sautoir-style gold necklaces set with amethysts enclosed in golden cages with delicate arabesque motifs, new to the Imperiale collection, will come into their own when teamed with floaty summer dresses.

Eschewing the bright colours that we normally associate with de GRISOGONO jewellery, the rose gold ring and earrings from the new Vortice fine jewellery collection are adorned with a generous smattering of diamonds. The voluminous design belies the exceptional lightness of this gold jewellery, which wraps itself around the skin to become one with the wearer.

The bow motif has featured in Garrard jewellery collections since 1858, when the Maison created three diamond bow brooches for Queen Victoria. This year, this enduring motif has been reinvented in a timeless jewellery collection that spans everything from a one-of-a-kind ruby necklaces to wearable gold jewels. Resembling a piece of satin, forged in gold, the bow design took months to perfect, and this rose gold ring, unadorned except for three rows of diamonds, shows it off to perfection.
