The quilted Chanel bag is a design classic beloved by chic women all over the world and now the distinctive matelassé pattern has been incorporated into an equally covetable Chanel jewellery collection.
Sold exclusively through the Chanel pop-up shop on Net-a-Porter, the six-piece Coco Crush collection of fine jewellery comprises rings in three different widths and a cuff bracelet. The small- and medium-sized rings are available in yellow or white gold while the large ring and chunky cuff are available in yellow gold only.
The stylised pattern engraved into the gold is a modern take on the iconic quilting first used by Gabrielle Chanel in 1920. It was inspired by the matelassé pattern she had seen sewn into the horse blankets and the gilets worn by stable boys when she went riding as young girl. The quilting became a part of her signature aesthetic and matelassé suede cushions were dotted around her Paris apartment. Today, the pattern has become synonymous with the iconic 2.55 handbag but it also appears on other products such as jackets and even eye shadow palettes and now the stylish new Coco Crush collection of Chanel jewellery.
The Net-a-Porter Chanel pop-up shop opened last week and will close on 6 May.
