Diamonds and pearls: a classic combination for Christmas

Diamonds and pearls are both up there as classic jewellery box staples, but put them together and the effect is even more alluring. The two gems complement each other perfectly, with the lustrous pearls softening the bling factor of diamond jewellery. Whether they are set in white, yellow or rose gold, diamonds and pearls are a truly timeless pairing that the lady in your life will never tire of.

1. Autore
Pearl earrings in rose gold with brown diamonds
£1,762 (AUD $3,780)

Two 11mm South Sea pearls are framed by brown diamonds set into rose gold in these exquisite earrings from the Essential collection by Australian pearl jewellery company Autore. A delightful twist on the classic pearl studs, these earrings are the perfect jewels for both day and night, while the warm colours will complement any skin tone.

2. Boodles
Circus pearl drop earrings in white gold with pearls and diamonds
£3,750

These ornate drop earrings from Boodles’ Circus jewellery collection have a glamorous vintage vibe. As well as the perfect party jewel – just add a cocktail gown and swept back hair to really show them off – we also think these diamond and pearl earrings would add an opulent touch to more casual outfits. Two South Sea pearls dangle from the distinctive beaded circle motif that appears throughout the Circus fine jewellery collection, while round brilliant-cut diamonds add a seductive sparkle.

3. VanLeles
Lyla’s Bow earrings in rose gold, diamonds and South Sea pearls
£6,690

A whimsical bow adds the perfect playful touch to these diamond and pearl earrings by VanLeles – the jewellery brand set up by London-based designer Vania Leles. Two Christmas gifts in one, the 13mm South Sea pearl drops are detachable so the diamond-studded rose gold bows can also be worn on their own. The earrings can be matched with other jewels in the Lyla’s Bow collection, which include a ring, necklace and bracelet in rose gold. Inspired by a friend’s beautiful curly haired daughter who sadly passed away, 10% of each sale is donated to The Lyla Nsouli Foundation to help find a cure for children’s brain cancer.

4. YOKO London
Mayfair earrings in white gold with diamonds and South Sea baroque pearls
£30,000

A pair of South Sea baroque pearls play peek-a-boo in these intricately ornate earrings by YOKO London. The height of glamour with a price tag to match, these pearl earrings are decorated with more than 7cts of dazzling white diamonds set in white gold. Watch her face light up with the same magical sparkle when she unwraps them on Christmas morning.

5. Mellerio dits Meller
Médicis Florissante ring in white gold with diamonds and a South Sea pearl
€8,400

The Médicis collection was created in honour of Queen Marie de Médicis to mark the 400th anniversary of French jewellery house Mellerio dits Meller. Queen Marie was the first royal to grant special privileges to the Mellerio family, thus helping to establish what is now the world’s oldest dynasty of jewellers. Her passion for diamonds and pearls is reflected throughout the collection, along with the lily, which was the symbol of royalty in France. This stunning ring features a cultured South Sea pearl encased in white gold to mimic a lily bud, as well as an open flower embellished with white diamond pavé.

6. Mikimoto
Dandelion pendant in rose gold with Akoya pearl and diamonds
£1,500

The ethereally graceful dandelion is the inspiration behind the new jewellery collection from Japanese pearl masters Mikimoto. Cultured Akoya pearls sit alongside sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds – their lustrous beauty emphasised by subtly shimmering rose gold. A pearl necklace is perhaps the most classic and timeless jewel of them all, and this modern version that exudes simple elegance is destined to become a firm favourite.
