Now that’s how you celebrate a birthday! Michelle Branch just turned 34-years-old this weekend, and she received a birthday present far better than cake—an engagement ring! The singer/songwriter just got engaged to Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney. Here are all the details on her birthday proposal.
People magazine reports that the “Everywhere” singer was dating Carney for two years before he popped the question this Sunday on Branch’s 34th birthday. Branch and Carney first met in February 2015 at a Los Angeles Grammys party. Then, while collaborating on Branch’s last album, the pair couldn’t help but fall for one another. Branch said they “started realizing that we were completely falling in love,” while working together, she explained to Billboard. “Pat has said, ‘I remember seeing you on MTV in the early 2000s and thinking you were really cute,'” she added. “It’s like, why couldn’t we have just met each other in our 20s? We would have saved so much heartache!”
And now, two years later, these two are officially tying the knot.
Branch took to Instagram after her sweetheart popped the question, writing, “Thank you for all the birthday love and wishes. Last night, right before I blew out my candles, @officerpatrickcarney asked me to marry him and then I had nothing left to wish for.”
“34 might be the best year yet,” she mused. Considering the stunning sparkler on her finger, we’d definitely say it’s in the running. Branch snapped an engagement ring selfie for the ‘Gram, featuring her new engagement ring front and center. Carney gifted his to-be bride a unique Art-Deco style ring, featuring four gorgeous, sparkly stones.
“I’d never had someone who was that supportive. He’s an amazing, amazing human,” Branch told People of her now-fiancé. “We both just jumped in with both feet.”
Looks like 34 is off to a great start!
