Android Wear 2.0 launch set for early February, Google tells developers

Android Wear 2.0 may be only days away, with Google announcing that its OS update will arrive in early February.

That’s according to an email being sent out to Google Play developers, and posted by this Google+ user, among other devs who have shared it. The email states Android Wear 2.0 will arrive in “early February” and reiterates the addition of the new on-watch Play Store.

That date’s not as specific as we’d like, but we’ll take it. Android Wear 2.0 was anticipated to launch last year, but in September Google announced it would be pushed back into 2017, disappointing many people, not least Wareable Editor in Chief Paul Lamkin.

Google is also expected to announce two of its own smartwatches early this year, although exactly when is yet unknown. Android Wear 2.0 will be made available on some – though not all – existing Android Wear devices around the same time.

Alongside the onboard Play Store, Wear 2.0 will finally be getting Android Pay, along with other improvements to complications and support for contextual smart replies.

We’re waiting for Google to confirm a specific date for the launch of Wear 2.0, but hopefully we’re now just a few weeks away from the long-awaited update.
