Audemars Piguet continues to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oak (kicked off with these frosted gold numbers back in November) with the release of a new Royal Oak Ultra-Thin Ref. 15202 “Jumbo” in yellow gold. This is big news for AP lovers, as the manufacture only recently started re-releasing certain watches from the Royal Oak collection in yellow gold, and this particular model is a fan favorite. So what is different about this new Ultra-Thin? Let’s find out.

The new Royal Oak “Jumbo” in yellow gold measures 39mm and features two new tapisserie dial types, a blue on and a gold-colored one. You can see how these unique dials are made right here too – it’s worth a look. The watch features the beloved date window at three o’clock and the AP logo at six o’clock (a hallmark of the original “A-Series” Royal Oak).
Furthermore the watch is powered by the reliable caliber 2121 automatic movement, which measures just 3.05mm thick and is the same exact movement that can be found in the original Royal Oak from 1972. So there’s history inside and out with this piece.

Now, the ref. 15202 hasn’t been on the market for all that long, with steel and rose gold versions released in 2012 for the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak. Since 2012, the 15202 has sold like hot cakes and you may have spotted this this limited edition 15202 in yellow gold with a dark green dial in partnership with the Hour Glass pop up since too. Now, this year is the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak being made in a precious metal, so Audemars Piguet decided to bring the OG gold back into the collection with this non-limited edition piece.

The little details all appear to have been well handled on these two new models, from the date discs matching the respective dial colors to the usual mix of brushed and polished finishes.
