The Good
While the 43mm case is constructed of high grade stainless steel (not unheard of, but somewhat unusual in a timepiece of this price), the finish is highly polished to give it a shining overall look.
The dial is incredible, with an opaline silver color and Arabic numerals scribbled in a Parisian fashion across the outer rim. The dial does not feature a seconds hand but an elegant hour and minute hand that looks vaguely leaf-shaped.
The genuine scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal and genuine matte brown leather strap show off the design of days gone past in Europe. Paired with the polished bezel and the silvered dial with Arabic numerals that look like they have been scribbled onto parchment, this wonderful Hermes timepiece holds a special place in many collectors’ hearts.
The retrograde date and the Le Temps Suspendu features of this timepiece are the real showstoppers. Read more about these features under “The Highlights” section below.
The Bad
As a timepiece that retails for over $20,000 and still sells for over $15,000, it is quite disappointing that the case and the bezel are made of stainless steel. A watch of this caliber and price should offer the wearer solid 18K White or Yellow Gold — Titanium at the very least, in its construction.
The Highlights
There are two great features on this timepiece that truly make it a worthwhile buy.
First, is the Le Temps Suspendu feature. Literally meaning to “stop time in its tracks,” you simply hold down the push button on the left hand side of the case and ‘freeze the moment’ — this sends the hour and minute hands back to the 12 o’clock position and will keep them there until you put them back in action, where they will resume their timekeeping.
The second feature is the retrograde date. This feature stretches across the bottom right quarter of the dial face, from the 7 o’clock position, arching over to the 3 o’clock position. With an elegant subdial date hand, this feature manually ticks over the date of the month, from 1 to 31.
