What started out as a watchmaking company in Saint-Imier the 1830s became the start of one of the best European watch makers. It started with the year of 1867, when the inauguration of the Longines factory was held and in that same year came the company’s first movement — the 20A. This 20-line calibre featured an anchor escapement as well as a setting mechanism and a pendant winding mechanism.
This movement won an award at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867 and the rest is history. Today, we enjoy 150 years of Longines timepieces, including the company’s first precise timing movement, the 20H calibre Chronograph.

This Swiss made Longines Flagship men’s timepiece uses an Automatic movement as its power source. Using a high quality, in-house Longines Calibre L688 engine, this Automatic will give you 54 hours of power reserve and will track the time, power the Chronograph feature, as well as the calendar window and three subdials on this complex luxury dial.
The L688 is a new column wheel Chronograph movement that is self-winding and prestigious. Created in 2010, this calibre is used for timepieces of the Longines Saint-Imier Collection that was launched in 2012.
The Good
There are many positives to this timepiece from its world class design, quality materials, incredible Swiss made Automatic movement, Chronograph feature, and subdials, to its genuine leather strap.
Complete with a Chronograph feature, the three subdials are: 12 hours, 30 minutes, and 60 seconds. The angled calendar date window between 4 and 5 o’clock manages to match the look rather than break up the dial design.
One of the best parts about this timepiece is its minimalism while staying classic. The hour positions feature silver-tone stick indexes that are not too large or too small. Perfectly in sync with the silver-tone of the dial hands and the polished bezel, this look is simply Longines.

Functionality
There are no complaints at all regarding the functionality of the Flagship Heritage. The movement is perfection and the push buttons and crown are fully functional, allowing the Calibre L688 engine to tick with precision around the main- and sub-dials.
The Sapphire crystal and the skeleton case back do a remarkable job of protecting the precious movement within while maintaining a stunning design.
The 54 hour power reserve is very respectable, as most luxury timepieces only manage to offer anywhere between 42 and 48 hours of reserve power when not worn. Overall, you cannot go wrong this model by Longines.
The Highlights
One of the highlights is certainly the Automatic movement. The Longines Calibre L688 engine is a masterpiece of Swiss engineering and is the perfect movement for this multi-subdial Chronograph timepiece. With a power reserve of 54 hours, your watch will tick longer without needing winding when not worn, than most competitors.
The design is also stunning. If one would say that they owned a timepiece with a silver dial, silver dial hands, three subdial features and a Chronograph, you would think that you have seen it all. However, Longines manages to create a luxury watch out of this seemingly common combination of colors and materials.
The silver dial is absolutely elegant and you can’t keep your eyes off of it or the 40mm stainless steel case. The three subdials are ever-so-slightly inset at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, which offers a simple look that becomes extraordinary with the addition of the silver-tone dial hands and subdial hands.
Protecting the dial you will find a genuine, scratch resistant Sapphire crystal, and around the back of the case you will find a skeletonized back that exposes the beautiful Calibre L688 engine of Longines’ Automatic movement.
