Bejewelled butterflies and floral finery from London jeweller David Morris

Esteemed London jeweller David Morris celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, and it has come back bejewelled guns blazing with new Spring/Summer Collections for 2013. Putting a playful spin on fine jewellery are colourful butterfly rings and a beautifully articulated floral bracelet, and don’t even try to count all those old-mine emeralds in that one-off necklace.

New between-the-finger rings in the Butterfly and Palm Collection flutter across the hand on gem-set wings of pink, white and blue diamonds. Each David Morris stone is sought out for its colour and character, and their quality is immediately apparent. Those luscious pale-pink and blue diamonds; those dazzling canary yellows and vivid pinks.

The ruby, that most traditional of gemstones, is reinvented as a seriously modern jewel in the new Corsage Collection. Worn like a floral corsage, the bracelet features two jewel-laden flowers that sit either side of the wrist, joined by a diamond-set band. On the Corsage ring, spherical ruby beads, juicy as ripe berries, sit between diamond-set petals, set en’tremblant so that they catch the light as they move.

The one-of-a-kind Wildflower necklace is a grand statement piece from a grand jeweller that has, over the years, sold jewels to some of the world’s finest collectors, including Elizabeth Taylor and Queen Noor of Jordan. Strung with almost 300ct of faceted emeralds from the Maharajas, the vivid green of the jewels is offset by delicate flowers set with 50ct of white diamonds.
