Our Top 10 Instagram posts from 2015

Since we posted our very first picture in September 2013, The Jewellery Editor’s Instagram account has gone from strength to strength. By the end of 2015, we had more than 80,000 followers, with more signing up on a daily basis.

Our Instagram page gives you instant access to an unrivalled collage of the world’s most desirable and spectacular jewellery and watches, and as well as drool-worthy images and red carpet celebrities, we also bring you a snapshot of our daily lives, be it attending glamorous industry events, browsing the stands at Baselworld and Couture, or shooting videos in exotic locations. In 2015, we posted 3,683 images that attracted a total of 84,580 “likes” over the year.

The Jewellery Editor’s social media manager Kathryn Parker says: “The obvious visual nature of Instagram is the perfect platform for which to communicate with our followers, and we love that we can connect with everyone instantly with the latest news in a way that represents our luxury digital magazine to its best. We have seen our follower numbers soar over the last year and I think this has much to do with finding new ways to open our world up to everyone.”

Created in memory of a friend’s daughter, VanLeles Lyla’s Bow ring is in white gold and set with 1.25ct of diamonds (2,042 likes).

By far the most popular post was a picture of a white gold and diamond ring by VanLeles Diamonds which had received over 2,000 likes by the end of December. Designer Vania Leles created the ring in memory of the daughter of a close friend who passed away from brain cancer aged three.

Looking back over our Instagram posts of 2015, it seems our followers have a penchant for blue and green gemstones. And who can blame them? The intoxicating combination of tranquil blue and grassy green – both colours that are inextricably linked to nature – is the perfect antidote to a grey, dreary day when you’re scrolling through your phone on the way to work.

The post that amassed the second highest number of likes was a rainbow hued Fabergé Emotion ring set with more than 300 diamonds, rubies, tsavories, emeralds and sapphires. In third place was a stunning 23ct Paraiba tourmaline, opal and diamond Arunashi bracelet, snapped at Couture Las Vegas in May last year. Tiffany & Co was behind our fourth most-liked post, which was a picture of the amazing spinel scales bracelet from the latest Blue Book high jewellery collection entitled Under the Sea.

Giampiero Bodino aquamarine, Paraiba tourmaline and brilliant-cut diamond necklace in pink gold (770 likes).

Other jewels along the blue-green theme included a Chopard necklace from the Red Carpet collection, plus a Giampiero Bodino necklace with aquamarines, Paraiba tourmalines and brilliant-cut diamonds. Bucking the colour trend was a Boghossian across-the-finger ring set with rubies and diamonds, which featured in our most popular Instagram video clip. Further highlights in the Top 10 included a spectacular Fabergé Easter Egg first unveiled at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, and two iconic Cartier jewels in the shape of a Panther ring and a Love bracelet.

Classic white pearls are always a winner with our Instagram followers, and two pictures from Australian-based Autore racked up 701 and 657 likes each. A picture of the Eiffel Tower, posted in the wake of November’s terrorist attacks in Paris, also appeared in the Top 20 most-liked posts, as did an image of Prince William and Kate, reposted from Kensington Palace to announce the birth of Princess Charlotte back in May last year.

At the end of the year, The Jewellery Editor introduced Instagram “takeover” days for our valued clients, kicking off with the aforementioned VanLeles in December. As Kathryn Parker enthused: “This year will bring even more designer takeover days, mini info-videos, a bigger focus on watches, plus behind-the scenes action and a closer peek into our travels to the world’s most prestigious boutiques. Also keep an eye on our bio section, which links to our top stories of each week from the website. We love Instagram as a way of engaging with our readers and learning from their comments what they would like to see more of.”
