The News Of The Georg Jensen x Gemfields

Combine Georg Jensen’s sculptural look with the intense red of Gemfields rubies and the result is the most exciting collaboration of the season.

Collaborations have been big news in jewellery this past year. From Zaha Hadid x Georg Jensen – one of the late architect’s last completed projects – to Tracey Emin x Stephen Webster, these meetings of minds are driven by creativity and, often, practicality.  And Emin’s famous text-based artworks, immortalised in neon lights, required the know-how of Webster to see her words transformed into jewels.  While Hadid designed the jewels for the Danish design house, it took the silversmithing skills of Georg Jensen’s team of craftsmen to bring her vision to life.

Exactly the same principle holds with Georg Jensen’s latest collaboration with Gemfields, one of the world’s leading suppliers of rubies. Georg Jensen has brought its design legacy to the table, while Gemfields has supplied the gemstones – vibrant red rubies from its mine in Mozambique. Available exclusively in Europe through Amazon Fashion, customers can order this capsule collection of five jewels with speedy, free signed-for delivery.

Based on Georg Jensen’s iconic Mobius shape from the 1960s, a minimalist design with no beginning and no end, my favourite jewel in the collection is the Serenity ring, below, a concave east-west design that plays with shadow and light as it dips inwards towards the finger, with a single Gemfields ruby adorning the sculpted silver.

Buying any of the jewels from the collection will be helping a good cause too. Gemfields is committed to conservation in Mozambique, the country in which it operates the Montepuez ruby mine, and 20 percent of proceeds from each sale will go toward Niassa Carnivore, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to conserving wild lions and other carnivores in the area.

Amazon Fashion is becoming a hub of jewellery talent, with its roster of designers, which includes Shaun Leane, Solange Azagury-Partridge, Completedworks and Imogen Belfield, continuing to grow each season. “Georg Jensen and Gemfields are both leaders in their respective fields – Georg Jensen for expertise in design and craftsmanship, and Gemfields as a leading supplier of responsibly sourced gemstones,” says Julian Exposito Bader, Head of Vendor Management for Jewellery, Amazon Fashion Europe. “We are excited to bring together these expert minds for this limited-edition collection.”
